Why St. Pete/Clearwater?

Situated on a sun-drenched peninsula separating the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa Bay, St. Pete/Clearwater is the most popular destination on the Gulf of Mexico with 35 miles of award-winning white-sand beaches. And while there’s plenty to do in the area, from fascinating museums to nature preserves, all this sunshine means one thing: St. Pete/Clearwater is the perfect place to host nearly any sports tournament.

Event planners will rejoice when they arrive to St. Pete/Clearwater, as they are immediately presented with a choice between some of the finest beaches (TripAdvisor ranked two area beaches in their Top 25 U.S. Beaches in 2017), athletic facilities and golf courses in the nation. Sand Key Park is a premier getaway and a great place to play some sand volleyball. For those interested in golf, there are 52 courses in the area with four major courses that tourists flock to, including the legendary Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Palm Harbor which hosts an annual PGA TOUR event. Meanwhile, North Shore boasts an aquatic complex and a pristine beach, while Oldsmar gives disc golfers the best course in all of Florida. If you love being outdoors, you will thoroughly enjoy everything the St. Pete/Clearwater area has to offer.

What Can We Do in St. Pete/Clearwater?

Ultimately, even the most thrilling baseball game has to end, even the most exciting beach volleyball match cannot go on forever and even Florida’s finest golf courses have only 18 holes. Thus, there will be a time when visitors need to look away from athletics and see what the St. Petersburg and Clearwater area has to offer. Hint: They won’t be disappointed.

Those inclined to the arts might also consider stopping at the Morean Arts Center, which displays works by local, national and international artists, as well as The Chihuly Collection, boasting a stunning, permanent collection of world-renowned glass blowing artist, Dale Chihuly’s unique artwork. Sunken Gardens is an awe-inspiring place boasting more than 60,000 tropical plants and flowers. Planner Perspective

Since 2003 Oldsmar BMX and the St. Pete Clearwater Sports & Events team have been host to the annual USA BMX Gator Nationals, one of our most prestigious events.  St. Pete Clearwater Sports & Events is unequivocally one of the best we work with year after year.  It is their dedication to sport and BMX racing that has allowed to grow the event year after year, and we could not be happier to have them as one of our most valued partners.

John David, Chief Operating Officer, USA BMX

As an event organizer for one of the largest paddling events in the United States, I could not as for a better venue than Honeymoon Island State Park, as well as the town of Dunedin, Florida. The venue provides us with not only beautiful beaches, but with amazing staff support from the rangers and safety support from State Law Enforcement (FWC). Since we host over 600 participants, we always receive the warmest welcome from local businesses that host our athletes in hotels, provide venues for parties, and financially sponsor the event. Besides our local support and venue, our biggest fan is Visit St Petersburg Clearwater. We absolutely could not have seen the growth of our event over the last 14 years, nor have the quality of event that we organize, without the knowledge, support, and hospitality of this organization. We are proud to have them on-board with us, and look forward to continuing our relationship with them.

Karen Mirlenbrink, Organizer, the Shark Bite Challenge

VSPC and SPC Sports & Events has been a tremendous partner for a number of years and across a number of events – ranging from our baseball championship at Spectrum Field to our golf championship at Copperhead course at Innisbrook.  Our biggest take-away is the high-level of service, expertise in the field and – most important to me – the investment of time and spirit of collaboration.  I truly enjoy this partnership which has grown more into a relationship with the feeling of shared ownership and ultimately the desire for our events to be successful, enjoyable and memorable not only for the teams and student-athletes, but for the fans and community as well.  I look forward to many more years of this burgeoning association with VSPC as we look to grow the profile our events as well as our Conference’s national brand awareness.
