Local BC sports groups, provincial associations and international championships are all eyeing Burnaby BC to host their sporting events. Burnaby’s state-of-the-art BC sports facilities, a variety of different sport surfaces, a selection of accommodation and assistance from Tourism Burnaby from the bid process to execution are all determining factors in the increase of Burnaby sports events.

Home to the most ice surfaces in the Metro Vancouver area, Burnaby 8 Rinks offers 7 NHL-sized ice sheets as well as an indoor soccer field. For additional ice, Bill Copeland Sports Centre offers a full-sized NHL rink with 2,000 seats and Burnaby sports such as indoor lacrosse will have the perfect venue with a new removable wooden floor being introduced this spring.

Burnaby can also accommodate larger outdoor events at Swangard Stadium, host venue for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007 and track and field during the 2009 World Police and Fire Games.CanLan’s Adult Safe Hockey Network will be one organization taking advantage of Burnaby 8 Rinks’ ice when the 2011 North American Championships come to town in May, as will the 2011 Provincial Ringette Championships in March.

Also happening this spring on May 28, 2011 in the Burnaby Mountain area, known for its exceptional BC hiking, is the Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race.
