Forsyth County has been named Georgia’s healthiest county, and any visitor can soon see why. With no sporting facility in the county more than 12 miles from the others, visitors have a wealth of options at venues that regularly host group events, competitions and leagues. Forsyth County is home to an impressive 26 parks, which count more than 50 softball/baseball fields, soccer fields and multi-purpose fields, not to mention a skate park. For swimmers, the state-of-the-art Cumming Aquatic Center is an easy choice for any event. The region also boasts natural beauty and cultural activities that are sure to make your stay memorable both on and off the field.

Take advantage of your free time enjoying all that Cumming/Forsyth County has to offer for families. In a picturesque region just northeast of Atlanta, there are plenty of activities to make your tournament or event a memorable one. With the major hub of Atlanta so close, you may want to spend time exploring all that the city has to offer, with popular attractions including the World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium and plenty of shopping and international dining options. In Cumming-Forsyth County you can leave the big city behind and enjoy time with friends and family in some of the many beautiful natural areas that are all easily accessible by car. Lake Lanier offers boating, fishing, camping and swimming, while the North Georgia Mountains are full of sparkling rivers, waterfalls, lush forests and some excellent hiking. Outdoor enthusiasts shouldn’t miss a visit to Sawnee Mountain and the nature preserve, where you can hike, rappel and even visit the ancient “Indian seats.” While you’re in town, check out the Cumming Playhouse for family fun in a school-turned-theater that features plays, musicals, and concerts.

Fine Facilities for a Variety of Sports

Fowler Park

Fowler Park in Cumming and the adjoining recreation center (with two basketball courts) provide ample space for groups. It includes a skate park and a walking/jogging path. With amenities both inside and out, it is available year-round.

Central Park

Sports: Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis, basketball, disc golf

As the name suggests, Cumming’s Central Park is a main gathering place when it comes to sports and activities. With a long list of amenities, it’s easy to find the space and facilities to meet your group’s needs. Included are a community center with two basketball courts and a walking/jogging path. Groups will enjoy the use of meeting rooms, art classrooms, dance classrooms and a banquet facility.

Midway Park

Youth athletic leagues, camps and classes are regularly hosted at Cumming’s Midway Park, making it a trusted group event facility with plenty of sports offered. Amenities include a meeting room with kitchen and a walking/jogging path.

Sharon Springs Park

With a variety of outdoor venues, Sharon Springs Park in Cumming is a great place to host events large and small. Guests can take advantage of the walking/jogging trail and meeting room with kitchen.

Cumming Aquatic Center

For swimmers and divers, the venue of choice in Forsyth County is the Cumming Aquatic Center. The building features a 50-meter competition pool with seating for 750, and more seating can be added for a total of 1,250. It has a 13½-foot dive well. There also are a 25-yard instructional pool and outdoor leisure pool featuring a water slide and lazy river. Meets, competitions and classes are held throughout the year.

Coal Mountain Park

Sports: Baseball, softball, soccer, tennis

In addition to standard sports fields, Cumming’s Coal Mountain Park is home to Miracle League fields for children and adults with disabilities. Take advantage of the convenient meeting room with kitchen.

How to get to the Cumming/Forsyth area

Forsyth County is conveniently located about 40 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta and 50 miles from Atlanta’s airport.

By Car: Take 85 North from downtown Atlanta to Georgia 400 North. The total time to Cumming-Forsyth from downtown Atlanta is about 45 minutes.

By Plane: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the nation’s busiest airport, is served by all major airlines.
