Located 50 miles northwest of Chicago, the area has a reputation for hosting first-class events in baseball, soccer, lacrosse, volleyball and cycling, among others.
McHenry’s convenient location and diverse amenities make it an ideal destination for any sports event. For several years it has been home to the MCYSA Summer International Baseball Championships, which brings hundreds of teams to Crystal Lake’s Lippold Park. Other annual events include the Cardboard Cup Regatta and the Run and Roll Duathlon.
McHenry County welcomed the 2013 Tour de Crystal Lake, a cycling criterium associated with the Intelligentsia Cup Prairie State Cycling Series; the Woodstock KTM Stadium Motocross Series; and the Hard Charge, a televised obstacle race. Clearly, McHenry has the experience, knowledge and amenities to successfully host all kinds of events.
Lippold Park in Crystal Lake is a 310-acre, multi-purpose facility with 4.5 miles of limestone-paved hiking trails; an 18-hole disc golf course; eight irrigated baseball fields (two lighted); four irrigated synthetic infield softball baseball/fields (all lighted); 10 irrigated soccer fields; three irrigated football fields (all lighted); a certified 5k course; and two sand volleyball courts. There are four more non-irrigated soccer fields and a skate park.
McHenry County consists of several regions and cities, all of which operate their own park districts. These public parks range in size and amenities, and a majority of them are used for sports events throughout the year. So no matter where sports planners decide to go in McHenry County, the entire region has the potential to be a venue for sports competitions.
Three Oaks Recreation Area
This reclaimed quarry provides patrons with a great location for swimming, canoeing, kayaking and sailing. The area also boasts plenty of hiking trails and a cozy beach.
Regional Sports Center
Located in Crystal Lake, the center features two indoor and outdoor soccer fields, two basketball courts, volleyball courts and bungee soccer.
McHenry County offers endless outdoor recreation, with miles of hiking and biking trails, numerous water activities on the Fox River and even a unique winter attraction: the Norge Ski Jump. Museums and landmark buildings include the Historic Woodstock Opera House, McHenry County Historical Society Museum, Dole Mansion, Illinois Railway Museum, Volo Auto Museum and the Sanfilippo Place de la Musique. At certain times of year, visitors can experience festivals and fairs like Shades of Autumn at the Stade Dairy Farm, Harvard Milk Days, Strawberry Fest and Jazz Fest.

Located just northwest of Chicago, McHenry County is easily accessible from most of the Midwest. Its proximity to major airports in Chicago and Milwaukee allows teams from across the country to visit, too. Most major sites and venues are within a few miles of each other.
