Planning and hosting a successful sports event requires dedication and attention to detail. The team at the Ocala-Marion Sports Commission brings both to help sports event planners hold highly successful tournaments in scenic, centrally located Ocala/Marion County, Florida.
Two recent events that the Ocala-Marion Sports Commission helped plan were the Fishers of Men Southeast Regional and the American Youth Football and Cheerleading Southeast Regional.
The Fishers of Men Southeast Regional Tournament reeled in some 400 anglers. The tournament was a qualifying event for the National Championship. The Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail is one of the nation’s largest fishing tournament organizations. Anglers launched from the Kenwood Boat Ramp on the Rodman Reservoir, a world-famous bass fishing site.
The American Youth Football and Cheerleading Southeast Regional Tournament brought 2,400 football players and 900 cheerleaders to Ocala for four days of competition. The event was held in partnership with the City of Ocala’s Recreation and Parks Department at the Ocala Regional Sportsplex.
Other successful sports events assisted by the Ocala-Marion Sports Commission include the Hooters Professional Golf Tour, which has held a major tournament in Ocala for two years running; the 23rd US Women’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship and events for the NCAA; American Junior Golf Association; and many other prominent sports organizations. In addition, Ocala/Marion County has become an international epicenter of equestrian competition.
“We pride ourselves in planning successful, memorable sports events,” said Matthew Dunn, Executive Director of the Ocala-Marion Sports Commission. “Our team works with planners every step of the way.”
