Lumen Field (Seattle)

lumen field

Quick Introduction

Lumen Field sits just south of downtown Seattle, framed by the working waterfront and skyline views that pop as you approach Pioneer Square. For FIFA World Cup 26™, expect a loud, outdoor football cathedral with partial roof canopies that keep the roar in and the pitch open to the coastal light. Trains, ferries, and buses funnel fans right to the stadium blocks, and the walk in along Occidental Avenue feels like a moving fan zone. Inside, concourses are wide, food is very Seattle (think local pizza, teriyaki, and more), and the upgraded sound system turns goal celebrations into a wall of noise.

Lumen Field (Seattle)

Stadium Overview

Step off Link light rail at International District/Chinatown or Stadium and you’re a short stroll from Lumen Field’s north plaza, where the canopies frame that first glimpse of the bowl. Inside, sightlines are clean from the lower level up to the “Summit” upper deck; the partial roof helps focus the crowd’s roar without blocking the sky. Concourse flow is straightforward—loops on each level with clear wayfinding and plenty of open views back to the field.

Food feels like the city: quick slices at Ballard Pizza, smash burgers, ramen and poke, walk-out markets for grab-and-go, and bars with field-facing rails so you never miss the action. Cashless payment speeds everything up; if you brought cash, there are cash-to-card kiosks. Conditions tip: even with the canopies, wind-driven drizzle can sneak in—bring a light layer for evening matches. Actionable moves: arrive early to enjoy the north plaza and Cityside Bars, and use the Sound Transit 1 Line to skip traffic.

Lumen Field is an open-air stadium in the City of Seattle. The venue lists 68,000 fixed seats with roof protection over roughly 70% of seating; it can be configured upward for major events. For World Cup 26™, Seattle’s host committee confirms a natural-grass surface will be installed at Lumen Field. Any tournament-specific seating configuration beyond these published figures has not been announced on official pages.

Three main levels (lower, club, upper) wrap a U-shaped bowl with an open north end; the partial roof canopies amplify crowd noise while leaving the field fully open. Standard surface is FieldTurf, with natural grass installed for FIFA World Cup matches. Premium spaces include the Delta Sky360° Club areas, EQC Tunnel Club, Cityside Bars, and new Touchdown Suites. Conditions tip (official guidance): the east side is the “sunny side” and more exposed; many seats are covered but exposure varies with weather and wind.

  • Concessions & water: The stadium is cashless for concessions and retail; cash-to-card kiosks are available. Outside food in a clear bag is allowed (single-serve); sealed water bottles are permitted. Alcohol sales and cutoffs vary by event under the posted Alcohol & ID policy.
  • Merch & payments: The on-site Pro Shop and merchandise points take major cards and mobile pay; accepted card types include American Express, Mastercard, Visa, and Discover.
  • Facilities: First aid stations are posted on all levels; nursing lounges/pods are available on multiple levels. Drinking fountains and refill stations are provided.
  • Accessibility: Wheelchair escort service from gates, ADA seating throughout, ADA-compliant routes via ramps and elevators, service animals permitted, and closed captioning on ribbon boards. FIFA’s accessibility page and Sounders’ guide note additional details on elevators, nursing spaces, and sensory room access.

Clear bags up to 12″ x 6″ x 12″ or a one-gallon clear plastic bag are allowed; one small non-clear clutch up to 4.5″ x 6.5″ is permitted in addition. Backpacks and most other bags are prohibited. Medical and childcare exceptions apply; outside beverages are generally not permitted except sealed water bottles or approved medical/infant needs. (If a tournament-specific policy is published by FIFA, follow that on matchday.)

All guests pass through security screening; prohibited items include alcohol, cans/bottles, drones, large camera lenses/tripods, and more per the stadium’s list. Lumen Field is a smoke-free venue (including vaping and smokeless tobacco). Re-entry policies can vary by event; obey signage and staff instructions. FIFA states tickets for World Cup 26™ are digital in the official FIFA Ticketing App—access and follow the steps provided in the app and on FIFA.com/tickets.

Follow the stadium Fan Code of Conduct—no harassment, no throwing objects, and comply with staff directions. Gates and specific supporter-section guidance vary by event; arrive early to clear screening and explore concessions. June evenings in Seattle can be cool with marine breezes; carry a light layer even if the forecast is sunny. Flags, banners, and instruments must meet size and materials rules when permitted for soccer events—check the event page and stadium policies before you go.

Parking Guide

On-site parking is limited and often pre-sold to season ticket holders. Lumen Field operates two primary facilities: the Lumen Field Parking Garage (south, attached to the Event Center) and the North Lot (north of the stadium). Both open at 6:00 a.m. on event days and close two hours post-event; oversized vehicles over 8’3″ can only be accommodated in the North Lot. EV charging is available in both facilities, but on-site parking is not guaranteed without pre-purchase.

If you don’t have a pass, the stadium recommends public transit or nearby downtown garages such as Union Station and Metro Garage; accessible parking is also available at Union Station Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a designated ADA drop-off at 1st Ave S & S Charles St near the Pro Shop. Tailgating is not allowed in on-site lots. Rideshare drop-offs are on King St & Occidental (north) and Royal Brougham & Occidental (south). For transit park-and-ride, Sound Transit lists free parking at Angle Lake, Tukwila International Blvd, and Northgate Link stations; check train hours for late events.
