ATL Airport District recently announced construction is underway on a new multipurpose arena in College Park.

The arena, named Gateway Center @ College Park, will be a sports and entertainment venue projected to bring significant economic impact to the District, with the Atlanta Hawks G League team confirmed as the destination’s anchor tenant.

This marks the first time the Hawks will have an Atlanta-based development team, just minutes away from their home at Philips Arena. The arena will be located just minutes away from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world’s busiest airport, in addition to nearby hotels and entertainment.

The Gateway Center @ College Park will add to ATL Airport District’s impressive event and entertainment portfolio, which currently encompasses the Georgia International Convention Center, Georgia’s second largest convention center in the state, the Delta Flight Museum, the Porsche Driving Experience, unique dining and more.

“The ATL Airport District is a vibrant and flourishing area and we look forward to welcoming the Gateway Center @ College Park to the District,” said Cooke Smoak, president of ATL Airport District. “This multipurpose arena will be a venue for a variety of programming such as sporting events, concerts, graduation ceremonies and more, expanding our capabilities for hosting all types of occasions, no matter how big or small.”

The development, spanning 100,000 square feet of space, is expected to be completed in Fall 2019, bringing an estimated 600 jobs to College Park and surrounding areas located in the ATL Airport District, with a focus on women and minority participation.

Gateway Center @ College Park will hold 5,000 seats for events such as concerts and convocations, with 3,500 seats available for the Hawks G League basketball games. Its insulated precast panels, curtainwall glazing system and energized lobby for pregame entertainment will make it the premier event facility in the south metro area.
