The city of Akron will host the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s back-to-back softball and baseball state championship tournaments in 2019, to be held at a pair of iconic stadiums.

Firestone Stadium will host the softball championship from May 29-June 1, while Canal Park will welcome the baseball state championships from June 7-9, in a win for the city that’s being called Double Play Akron.

Double Play Akron will create a variety of print and digital channels to distribute important visitor information, allowing local partners to curate activities and destination assets for everyone visiting during the tournaments.

“With vibrant metropolitan amenities and equally engaging outdoor recreational pursuits, we proudly boast an array of sights, sounds and special experiences that we’re eager for our OHSAA friends to enjoy,” said Gregg Mervis, Akron/Summit Convention & Visitors Bureau president.

The Akron RubberDucks, current tenants of Canal Park, have created a welcome video for the event, while the website www.doubleplayakron.com will soon be launched in an effort to provide destination information for the community.
