With summer, and the opening of Foley’s 90,000 square-foot event center just around the corner, the Foley Sports Tourism Complex calendar is filling more each day. Executive Director Don Staley said it’s important that the community know the level of competition coming to town.

“While we initially got our feet wet with smaller tournaments, we’ve already been competing on a national level,” Staley said. “On the outdoor side we hosted the 2016 Sunbelt Conference Women’s Soccer Championship and we look forward to doing it again this year. Now with the development of our indoor facilities, we want to hit the ground running. Our partnership with Alabama USA Gymnastics and the Bama Bounders is letting us do just that.”

The 2017 Alabama Compulsory Championship, December 1-3, is the state’s gymnastics finale and is the culmination of the compulsory gymnastics season in Alabama. The event has been held in numerous locations around Alabama and comes to Foley for the first time this year.

Hundreds of the best gymnasts in the state will be heading to Foley, and the event organizer, Bama Bounders, who has hosted the state championships numerous times, feels the new location is a perfect fit.

“We chose the Foley area because of its location – close to great outlet shopping and the beach. Also because of the excellent support provided by Foley Sports Tourism, we are excited to host an event near the new and amazing OWA.” said Meet Director Mike Holdefer.

While participants have to do well throughout the year to qualify, anyone is welcome to come watch the event and see just what the future of Alabama gymnastics looks like.
