USA Badminton recently announced the Harbour Pointe Badminton Club, in conjunction with the Snohomish County Sports Commission, has been awarded the 2018 Adult National Championships.

The annual event will be played April 13-15, 2018, in Mukilteo, Wash., which sits 22 miles north of Seattle along the shoreline of the Possession Sound.

“We’re thrilled to have such an experienced group host the 2018 Adult Nationals,” said Jeff Dyrek, USA Badminton CEO. “Snohomish County has a great reputation when hosting elite events.”

The Snohomish County Sports Commission’s track record of hosting national events over the last decade includes the 2017 USA Curling National Championships, the 2012 and 2016 Pacific Rim Gymnastic Championships and seven USA Triathlon Youth and Junior Elite Race Series. The Harbour Pointe Badminton Club, in particular, hosted the 2017 USAB Junior International Trials and the 2016 USAB Junior National Championships.

“We look forward to welcoming the athletes and spectators to the City of Mukilteo and Snohomish County,” said Tammy Dunn, sports development director at Snohomish County Sports Commission.

Adult Nationals has drawn nearly 100 of the best players in the United States each of the last five years, including 2016 Rio Olympians Howard Shu, Eva Lee, Paula Obanana, Jamie Subandhi and Sattawat Pongnairat. Current women’s singles world No. 11 and two-time defending Dutch Open champion Beiwen Zhang won the women’s singles and women’s doubles titles at the Adult Nationals from 2014-16.

The event has bounced back-and-forth from the West Coast to the East Coast over the last few years. Adult Nationals were hosted in California in 2013 (Orange County), 2015 (Manhattan Beach), and 2017 (San Diego), and on the East Coast in 2014 (Boston) and 2016 (Palm Beach).
