Republic of The Rio Grande Museum was the home to Bartolome Garcia, great grandson of Laredo’s founder (Thomas Sanchez) and three-time Mayor of Laredo. The structure served as the capital of The Republic of the Rio Grande.  Â
The Villa de San Agustin Border Heritage Museum resides along the banks of the Rio Grande within Laredo’s San Agustin Historic District. It is housed within a meticulously restored two-story brick Italianate residence dating back to the early 20th century.  Â
