LOVES PARK (WIFR) — The Rockford Park District signs off on a $13 million expansion of Sportscore Two in Loves Park.

The construction contract for the Mega Sports Center was approved by the Rockford Park District Board.

The new facility will connect to the Indoor Sports Complex and house a turf field big enough to host a football game.

Park District Executive Director Tim Dimke says when the project is completed, Sportscore Two should host two million people every year.

“The Reclaiming First project is expected to produce nearly 16 million dollars, or double the current amount in tourism dollars spent in the community on an annual basis,” said Dimke. “It’s been a huge boom for our tourism and will be even more in the future.”

Construction is expected to begin sometime in April and should open in summer of 2017.
