The Skyway 10K will return to St. Petersburg on the first day of March, 2020.

Representatives announced the third annual running of the event at a press conference earlier in September. Registration will open on October 3, 2019.

Skyway 10K representatives presented the Armed Forces Families Foundation (AAFF) with a check for $640,000 while announcing the 2020 event, with the money coming from 100 percent of the proceeds from the 2019 edition. To date, Skyway 10K has raised more than $1.2 million for the AAFF in just two years of holding the competition.

“We’re excited about the third Annual Skyway 10K and are very much looking forward to 2020,” said Jonathan Dziuba, race director for the Skyway 10K. “More than 1,000 people work together to make this event happen. We’re so grateful for their support, for the opportunity to continue to put on this event, and that the community has embraced this as one of the Tampa Bay area’s most exclusive and premier outdoor events.”

Registration spots for as many as 8,000 runners will become available through a new lottery process beginning at 9 a.m. on October 3. Applying for the lottery portion of the registration will be free, while winners will be selected at random and will be allowed to register for the race. Participants will then be able to pay the $80 registration fee.

The lottery process will also allow groups of up to four participants to apply for the lottery together, though each group will have an identical chance of being selected from the lottery as individual registrants.

The annual run begins on I-275 at the rest area just south of the Skyway Bridge and ends at the rest area on the north side of the bridge, which equals 10 kilometers or 6.2 miles. Only the northbound lanes of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge are scheduled to be closed from 3:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on March 1.
