Sports tourism is alive and growing in Virginia.

That’s the message that Virginia’s Blue Ridge wants to send with their new video, highlighting the flourishing nature of sports tourism within the region.

“Building on VBR’s record tourism growth is our entire focus,” said Visit Virginia’s Blue Ridge president Landon Howard. “We are at the top of our game when it comes to sports tourism and our goal is to continually increase the regional tourism economic impact.”

VBR’s partnerships with local sports organizers have strengthened its brand and generats a strong economic impact for the region, explained Sports Development Manager Mary Cywinski.

“The combination of youth, amateur, collegiate and professional level events opens the door to bidding on more diverse sports opportunities,” Cywinski said.

The VBR Sports team continues to recognize new opportunities to maximize usage of all sports facilities within the VBR footprint, including the cities of Roanoke and Salem and the counties of Roanoke, Botetourt and Franklin.

VBR Sports is hopeful to bring in more events that highlight and prioritize the unique terrain and spectacular facilities the region has to offer. Expect to see top quality tournaments and events focusing on adventure racing, marathons, cross country, mountain bike racing, BMX cycling, off-road triathlons, corn hole, basketball, cheer/dance, football, archery, tennis, ice hockey, wrestling, volleyball, pickleball, disc golf, soccer and more.
