USS Triton (SSRN 586) made history in 1960 as the first submarine to circle the earth underwater, following the path of explorer Ferdinand Magellan. Port of Benton worked with the U.S. Navy to preserve the submarine’s sail and conning tower that are on display at the USS Triton Sail Park to honor submariners.

The Tri-Cities continues to deliver solid results for tournaments across baseball, softball, soccer and other multisport events. Columbia Playfield remains a reliable host site for youth and collegiate-level softball competitions and has benefited from facility improvements and dedicated tournament support. The Pasco Sporting Complex supports some of the region’s largest youth tournaments in baseball and softball and features multiple full-sized soccer fields and volleyball courts that serve large-scale events. The Southridge Sports & Events Complex adds depth to the region with fields, courts and an indoor pavilion for baseball, softball, volleyball, futsal and other sports. With its year-round climate, strong community collaboration and central Pacific Northwest location, the Tri-Cities is well-positioned to welcome even more high-impact competitions in upcoming seasons.
A Destination for Outdoor Recreation, Culture and Science
When competition wraps, the Tri-Cities invites teams and families to explore a blend of natural landscape, local history and unexpected discoveries. River recreation is abundant, with the Columbia, Yakima and Snake Rivers offering kayaking, paddle-boarding and scenic shoreline trails year round. Visitors can experience naval heritage at the USS Triton Sail Park or ride the historic Gesa Carousel of Dreams, one of the nation’s few classic carousels still in operation. The region is framed by sunny weather, vineyards and more than 200 wineries within a 50-mile radius, which combine to make the “Heart of Washington Wine Country” an appealing off-field destination. The mixture of science-rich attractions, outdoor adventure and wine country gives teams and families memorable options beyond the game.
