Introducing four major keys


While Maryland and Sport & Entertainment Corp of Maryland are focused on a multitude of sports and sporting events, four major event stand out. These major keys include the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Baltimore, the Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill, the Maryland Cycling Classic and the Preakness Festival. In an effort to return steeplechase racing to Fair Hill, the Sport Corp hopes to relaunch racing in the spring of 2025.

AAU Junior Olympic Games in Maryland

Baltimore is full of rich American history and a vibrant professional and amateur sports scene. The city will host the AAU Junior Olympic Games in 2028 and 2032—a big win for the community and the organization.

The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the world’s largest nonprofit amateur sports organizations and its Junior Olympic Games happen to be the largest national multi-sport event for youth athletics in the United States. The Games bring together thousands of young athletes to compete in various sports such as track and field, swimming, wrestling and more.

Marking a major milestone for the city and state in the world of youth sports, the 2028 event will be the first time Baltimore has ever hosted the Games. The event will be held at Morgan State University and is expected to create a significant economic impact for hotels, shops, restaurants and more, further boosting Maryland’s position among the top sports tourism states in the country.

Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill

The Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill is a premier event in the world of equestrian sports, held at the renowned Fair Hill Special Event Zone. As one of only a few competitions of its kind in the United States, it draws elite riders and horses from around the globe to compete in dressage, cross-country and show jumping.

The event is not just a showcase of top-level equestrian talent but also a celebration of the sport’s rich tradition and community spirit. Set against the backdrop of Fair Hill’s landscapes, the Maryland 5 Star offers an unforgettable experience for spectators, blending competition with the beautiful countryside. Cecil County has a history of hosting equestrian events, and Sport & Entertainment Corp of Maryland has been hosting this particular one since 2019.

Maryland Cycling Classic

Gear up for the Maryland Cycling Classic, a relatively new addition to the world of competitive cycling that is set to take place in 2025. After having to be postponed in 2024, the third race will showcase top cyclists from around the globe, racing through Maryland’s countryside and cities.

The Maryland Cycling Classic promises an action-packed experience for both competitors and fans. As a highlight on the international cycling calendar, the event will bring together elite athletes and cycling enthusiasts for a mixture of speed, skill and tough competition. Community building and giving back are also part of the spirit of the event, with 50 new bikes and helmets being donated to two schools to help promote better health and fitness.

Preakness Festival in Maryland

In May 2025, Maryland will commemorate a remarkable milestone: the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes. This momentous occasion serves as the foundation for the state’s vision to create a nationally recognized celebration that attracts participants and enthusiasts from around the globe. With Governor Moore’s historic $400 million investment aimed at wrapping up the redevelopment of Pimlico by 2027, Maryland is poised to elevate the Preakness Stakes and showcase the vibrant spirit of Baltimore and the wider Maryland community.

This significant investment not only enhances the racetrack’s infrastructure but also ensures that the benefits of this initiative will be felt across the entire state, promoting long-term growth and accessibility for all Marylanders.
