Snohomish County, Washington will be the place to be the weekend of April 13-15 as its sports commission announced the county will host a full slate of events.
Beginning April 13 and running through April 15, the USA Badminton Adult National Championships will unfold at the Harbour Point Badminton Club in Mukilteo. Adult nationals has drawn nearly 100 of the best players in the United States each of the last five years, including numerous 2016 Olympians such as Eva Lee, Paula Obanana, Jamie Subandhi and Sattawat Pongnairat.
The U.S. Championship Series returns for the second consecutive year April 14-15 at Meadow Wood Equestrian Center, outside of Monroe. Officials expect more than 10,000 people to visit over the two day stretch. There is still time to register for Saturday’s Super Race and Sunday’s Sprint Race. There will also be children’s races each day, making the event family-friendly. The races will draw competitors from across the Western states including California, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
The 2018 Pacific Northwest AAU Karate Championships and National Qualifier hosted by the USA Karate Club will be held at Lynnwood High School on April 14. With the sport of karate now an Olympic sport, this year’s event has increased in competitors. USA Karate Club expects about 200 karate students from British Columbia, Washington and Oregon competing in the event. Top competitors will earn a spot to compete in the National AAU Karate Championships held in July.
USSSA of Washington is hosting an adult men and co-ed softball tournament (DD’s Spring Warm Up Tournament) at Meadowdale Playfields in Lynnwood. With the Meadowdale Playfields recently renovated to turf fields, the city of Lynnwood has been able to book USSSA of Washington adult softball tournaments every weekend. An estimated 16 teams will play three games guaranteed on April 14. An estimated 16 co-ed teams with play three games guaranteed on April 15.
The Snohomish County Sports Commission was formed in 2005 as the sports division of the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau. It is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization.
