Haslam breaks ground on Cleveland Browns’ new stadium in Brook Park, Ohio

The Cleveland Browns have broken ground on a new $2.6 billion domed stadium in Brook Park, marking a major step in the franchise’s long-term future. Set to open in 2029, the 67,500-seat venue will anchor a larger mixed-use development near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, reflecting a shift from renovating the team’s current downtown facility to building a new regional destination.

Designed with a transparent roof and a fan-focused layout, the stadium emphasizes proximity and atmosphere, including a reimagined “Dawg Pound” inspired by European soccer venues. Officials say the design prioritizes sightlines and game-day energy while positioning the venue to host major events, from concerts to national championships.

While construction is underway, funding questions remain, including ongoing legal challenges tied to state contributions. Even so, team and state leaders view the project as a transformative investment, with potential to reshape economic development and expand Northeast Ohio’s role in the national sports landscape.

Cape Girardeau’s Shawnee Park Sports Complex expands

Shawnee Park Sports Complex in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, continues to strengthen its position as a premier youth tournament destination with a 131-acre, multi-sport layout built for high-volume competition. Designed with accessibility and efficiency in mind, the complex offers a seamless experience for athletes, families and event organizers traveling from across the region.

The facility features 13 baseball and softball fields, 14 soccer fields and dual-use football fields, many equipped with lighting, digital scoreboards and a mix of turf and natural surfaces to ensure consistent play. Recent additions, including new diamonds and flexible fields, expand capacity while enhancing scheduling reliability for large-scale events.

Beyond the fields, the complex integrates centralized concessions, shaded seating, hydration stations and ADA-accessible pathways to support long tournament days. Officials say the venue’s design, combined with nearby lodging and attractions, positions Cape Girardeau as a competitive and welcoming hub for youth sports tourism

Abandoned project in Arizona gets new life as $190 million sports complex

After years of setbacks, North Phoenix’s Fire ‘N Ice Arena is back on track, advancing a $190 million, 250,000-square-foot multi-sport complex designed to anchor youth athletics and entertainment. Located near I-17 and Sonoran Desert Drive, the development pairs two NHL-size ice rinks with flexible court space, positioning the venue as a long-awaited hub for hockey and indoor sports in a rapidly growing corridor.

The facility blends performance and versatility, featuring training areas, locker rooms, media spaces and multi-use courts for basketball, volleyball and pickleball. An on-site academy will integrate education with daily training, while evenings and weekends open the complex to leagues, tournaments and community programming. Leaders say the model creates a clear pathway for athlete development while expanding access for local users.

With a targeted opening later this year, the project also introduces a full entertainment component, including concerts and live events. Officials say the development reflects pent-up demand for ice facilities and positions Phoenix as a stronger year-round destination for sports, training and community engagement.

Emerald Youth Foundation pivots to new sports complex in Knoxville, Tennessee

Emerald Youth Foundation is advancing plans for building a new youth sports and community complex in Knoxville’s Five Points neighborhood, shifting to a privately owned site after earlier proposals stalled. The nonprofit has secured land along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, positioning the development to serve nearby schools and expand its long-standing presence in East Knoxville.

The proposed campus blends athletics, education and wellness, with plans for fields, a gymnasium, classrooms, a career center and health-focused facilities. Designed to support afterschool programming and youth leagues, the complex aims to create a centralized space where students can access mentorship, training and academic resources in one location.

Phase one represents a $25 million investment, supported in part by state funding, with additional design details still emerging. Leaders say the project reflects a long-term commitment to youth development, using sports and education as tools to strengthen community connections and create pathways for future success.

Indoor sports facility planned for The Yard in Wilmington, Delaware

At The Yard industrial park in Wilmington, Delaware, a new chapter is unfolding as redevelopment momentum gives way to recreation. With the park’s first 115,000-square-foot building nearing full occupancy, attention is shifting toward a youth-focused sports facility that reflects both market demand and community need in the growing Wilmington area.

The planned complex, known as The Tank, will introduce flexible indoor and outdoor spaces designed to accommodate baseball, futsal, soccer and lacrosse. Initial plans include a 30,000-square-foot building with adjustable layouts, batting cages and multi-sport configurations, along with a second building and surrounding turf fields and walking trails. The design emphasizes versatility, allowing the facility to adapt to evolving programming and emerging sports trends.

Leaders say the project aligns with broader regional growth, pairing industrial investment with community-focused development.
