Phoenix, AZ (February 18, 2015) – Sports tourism and events industry veteran Gary Alexander has been named a Principal at the Huddle Up Group LLC, a sports consulting firm based with offices in Arizona and Colorado.  Alexander will lead new business development, consult on sports tourism projects, and coordinate partner outreach for the company.

A longtime sports administrator, Alexander’s career has taken him to positions with the United States Olympic Committee, USA Gymnastics, the Nashville Sports Council (NSC) and the Music City Bowl.  His most recent role was that of Executive Director of the Local Organizing Committee for the 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four, where he led the community in its role as host.  This work earned him the honor of being named the NSC Community Spirit Award recipient for 2014, an award voted on by the local media.

Alexander is a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the National Association of Sports Commissions.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Arizona State University, where he was named a four-time All-American in Men’s Gymnastics and was later inducted into the ASU Sports Hall of Fame.  He officiated the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona and is a member of the National Gymnastics Judges Association Hall of Fame.  Gary also holds a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Colorado.

Huddle Up Group Founder + CEO Jon Schmieder commented on the announcement, “Gary is a very level headed leader.  He is a teacher and coach at heart, a great listener, and he loves to help others. Gary is a great addition to our team.”
