chicago-southland-logoWhat: Turn Two for youth, a non-profit, charitable organization created by two baseball families on a mission to facilitate the enjoyment and expansion globally of youth baseball and softball, will be teaming up with the Chicago Southland Convention and Visitors Bureau and Mokena Park District to collect used equipment and gear this July, 2016.

All donated gear will be sent to the Turn Two headquarters in Charlotte, NC where it will be refurbished and then shipped to impoverished youth around the world. Recipients of all donations are carefully selected and qualified by Major League Baseball to ensure all donations are delivered to those who need it most. We encourage the public to bring donations.

Who: Carlos May, a former Chicago White Sox Outfielder will be signing autographs in exchange for donated equipment; Carlos May played 1,002 career games for the White Sox between 1968 and 1976. Before losing his right thumb to a mortar accident while on Marine Reserve duty in August 1969, he was selected AL Rookie of the Year by The Sporting News. He made a courageous comeback from the injury a year later, hitting .285 with 28 doubles. A two-time All-Star, May’s best slugging numbers came in 1973, when he hit 20 homers and drove in 96 runs. The former outfielder and first baseman finished his White Sox career with exactly 1,000 hits and nearly 500 runs scored and RBI.
