The Riverside Sports Commission sets a new standard for collaboration, working with major sports groups and associations to ensure unparalleled event success. Working closely with Riverside’s sports venues, experienced local organizing committees, diverse hotel leadership, and friendly downtown merchants, the Commission has attracted major regional, state, national and international sporting competitions to Riverside. 

Sixty miles east of Los Angeles, Riverside is a bustling Inland Empire that lays claim to a number of firsts including Southern California’s first polo field and golf course. Riverside is home to two dozen nationally registered historic sites, more than 100 city landmarks and stunning Southern California natural attractions. It is also a tremendous spot to host your next sporting event as it features facilities that can cater to any competition.  

Popular Activities

  • The world-famous Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is the largest Mission Revival–style building in the United States. Each of its 238 luxurious rooms and suites celebrates the inn’s timeless architecture and as a National Historic Landmark, the inn evokes the romance of a European castle.  
  • Nearby Mount Rubidoux beckons visitors to climb to its white-cross-topped summit. Every paved trail at Mount Rubidoux Park leads to the top, with spectacular 360-degree views unfolding every step of the way.
  • Main Street Riverside is a charming place to shop. Along with the shops, you’ll find some of the most specialized and delicious restaurants in Southern California.
  • For an arts-oriented trip, visit the gallery, exhibition space and film screening room at the  Culver Center of the Arts, set in a renovated 1895 department store and the neighboring UCR California Museum of Photography, one of the West’s best photographic museums.
  • Also worth a trip is the Riverside Art Museum, designed by architect Julia Morgan of Hearst Castle fame. The 61,420-square-foot center opens in June of 2022 and will house hundreds of paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures by artists including Patssi Valdez, Sandy Rodriguez and Carlos Almaraz.

Riverside Aquatics Complex

Sports Covered: Swimming, Diving, Water Polo

Located at Riverside City College, the Riverside Aquatics Complex features the region’s first 65-meter competition pool and is a world-class training facility for competitive swim, diving, water polo teams and individual athletes. 

The complex, along with the 65-meter all deep pool, offers a diving tower with 3, 5, 7.5 and 10-meter platforms; 1-meter and 3-meter springboards (two each) poolside; a movable bulkhead that allows up to two simultaneous activities; competition lighting; locker rooms and team rooms; poolside bleachers for 500 and temporary bleachers for 2,500, which are provided between the months of May through June; and an electronic scoreboard.  

Its two adjacent Cutter pools serve as practice, warmup and water education facilities, along with the existing building, which houses a classroom, public restrooms and changing areas. 

Rancho Jurupa Regional Sports Park  

Sports Covered: Soccer

This beautiful park located along the Santa Ana River and situated behind Mt. Rubidoux is a popular, award-winning park that is home to shady cottonwood trees, graceful meadows and two pristine lakes.  

It is also a perfect place to host your next soccer tournament as it features 32 acres of lush natural and synthetic turf fields. Comprised of four large marked and lighted synthetic turf fields (70 by 100 yards); two large lighted and marked natural turf fields (50 by 100 yards) and nine smaller natural turf fields, this park is an ideal spot for a soccer tournament. Illuminating the fields is green lighting by Musco, allowing a more energy-efficient way of lighting the park. 

Nestled between the synthetic and natural fields is a landscaped plaza with picnic shelters, restrooms, a snack bar and two playgrounds. The park also contains five RV parking stalls; 400-plus general parking stalls; 17 handicap parking stalls; drinking fountains and restrooms. 

Riverside Convention Center

Sports Covered: Gymnastics, Wrestling, Martial arts, E-sports, Cheerleading and Dance Competitions

Offering 65,000 square feet of flexible exhibit space, the Riverside Convention Center is an ideal venue for indoor competitions, including gymnastics, wrestling, martial arts, e-sports, cheerleading and dance competitions. The center is also a perfect venue for sports conventions as it is centrally located in one of America’s sports meccas, Southern California. 

The center boasts a huge amount of usable indoor meeting space, upper and lower concourses, 22 meeting rooms accommodating groups from 10 to 3,000 and has an outdoor meeting and relaxation area that covers 20,000 square feet. The outdoor area includes a sprawling open-air plaza and nearly two acres of lawn and garden. 

Those who visit won’t go away hungry as the center, led by Executive Chef Brad Martin of ABC’s television show The Taste, offers the finest unconventional culinary experience in the convention business. Proudly preparing fresh farm produce and vegetables from locally sourced growers, the center offers an unlimited variety of specialized menu items. 

LA Kings Icetown

Sports Covered: Hockey

Riverside is home to LA Kings Icetown, a premier facility for youth and adult hockey. The homebase of the Junior Reign youth travel team of the AHL’s Ontario Reign, games, tournaments and events are held year-round. In addition, in-house youth leagues and adult leagues for multiple skill levels are also regular at the venue.  

Icetown features a multi-use ice rink for skating and hockey which covers 68,000 square feet, two side-by-side ice rinks: 200 feet by 85 feet and 190 feet by 80 feet. It also has a capacity of 2,000.
