BELOIT, Wis. (July 27, 2016) – Beloit is ready to welcome Kubb enthusiasts for the third consecutive year but with some new and exciting changes in 2016. Visit Beloit partnered with Beloit Parks and Leisure Services to create and host the Rock, Paper, Kubb Tournament in 2014 and 2015. This year, Kubb United, a newly formed organization, will take the lead for the Beloit tournament with the two founding groups assisting.  The Beloit event will be the second major Kubb tournament in the United States and organizers are confident the event can reach the heights of the U.S. National Kubb Championship held annually in Eau Claire, WI.

The tournament will take place on Saturday, August 13th, 2016 with the first matches starting at 9:00 am after a short all team meeting at 8:30 am.  Each team will be comprised of two players for any given match but substitutes are allowed for teams wishing to have more players.  Registration is open now at kubbunited.com/us-kubb-open and the field is limited to the first 64 teams to register.  There will be cash prizes and awards for the top finishers at the event. In addition to the Kubb tournament, Visit Beloit will hold a Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament open to the first 64 people to register.

The event is being organized by some of the best Kubb players in the country, all of which are excited to return to the picturesque setting of Riverside Park in Beloit. “While evaluating cities to host our inaugural tournament, Beloit became an easy choice because of the cooperation from the city that we witnessed over the last two years at the Rock, Paper, Kubb tournament, “stated tournament co-organizer and 2015 Rock, Paper, Kubb Champion, Evan Fitzgerald.  Fellow organizer, Darren Finger, of Waukesha, WI added, “The park is a great setting for a Kubb tournament and the support we are getting from Visit Beloit and Beloit Parks and Leisure Services is awesome. It’s the perfect partnership for the inaugural U.S. Kubb Open.”

“We had two successful years with Rock, Paper, Kubb, and now we are excited to bring an even bigger tournament to Beloit,” said Matthew Bosen, Director of Sales and Servicing at Visit Beloit. “We have attracted teams from Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin already and with our partnership with Kubb United, we hope to bring players from around the world to our great city.”
