Additional 100,000 Square Feet at Sunseeker Event Center Set to Boost Premium Event Space

Event planners looking for waterfront venues with expanded meeting capabilities will have plenty more reasons to consider the Punta Gorda/Englewood Beach area in Southwest Florida. Sunseeker Resort Florida Gulf Coast, Curio Collection by Hilton, is planning a major expansion that will notch an additional 100,000 square feet of new meeting and event space, which will transform the resort into one of the region’s largest conference destinations.
Construction is underway in Charlotte Harbor, with the expansion targeted for completion in 2028. Once finished, the additions will more than double the resort’s existing 60,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space. An enclosed skybridge will connect the new facility to the main resort, creating a seamless experience for attendees and event organizers.
The project reflects growing demand for destinations that can accommodate larger tournaments, conferences, corporate meetings and special events while also providing an attractive vacation setting with easy access to Southwest Florida’s beaches and outdoor attractions. It also accompanies a wide variety of other facilities built for sports, like Pickleplex of Punta Gorda and Charlotte Sports Park.

Expanding the Destination Experience
Local officials expect the investment to deliver benefits that extend beyond the property itself. Charlotte County leaders say the expansion is expected to increase visitor traffic, overnight stays and tourism-related spending, generating additional revenue through the county’s Tourist Development Tax while supporting ongoing redevelopment efforts throughout the Charlotte Harbor waterfront.
The expansion also represents another milestone in the property’s evolution. Originally developed by Allegiant Travel Company, the resort opened in late 2023 after overcoming construction delays caused by Hurricane Ian. Following its acquisition by Blackstone Real Estate, the property was rebranded as Sunseeker Resort Florida Gulf Coast, Curio Collection by Hilton, positioning it for its next phase of growth.
Surrounding infrastructure improvements are also helping enhance the destination experience. Charlotte County continues investing in nearby waterfront parks, public spaces and access improvements designed to strengthen the area’s overall appeal. Port Charlotte Beach Park is undergoing significant redevelopment that includes a new elevated recreation center with meeting and event space, a catering kitchen and waterfront deck, as well as a community pool designed for lap swimming, aquatic programming and special events.
Together with the Sunseeker expansion and nearby sports venues, the investment reinforces Charlotte Harbor’s continued growth as a destination for meetings, sports and group travel.
